Some thirty miles southwest of Laramie stand some "beehive-looking" rocks that have weathered out of the Casper Formation of Permean age. These sands originally accumulated in large sand dunes next to a marine sea (the beach was at Laramie). The layers in the rock are the layering in the sand dunes.
